How to edit a wiki page

Introduction

A wiki page is a simple text referenced by its short title, shows a title and contains those different elements in its body: text, formating tags and directives. When you open a wiki page, you'll notice all those fields. You'll also notice three extra input fields that correspond to the page description, the page keywords, and the page author.

We'll review all those elements now.

edit

The short title

The short title is what you can read in the URL address of your web navigator (the link if you prefer, or the long line of text starting by 'http://...'). The short title is your first step into wiki edition. Try to keep it... very short, and to get to this, think about two or three keywords that are the most relevant to your future page.

For instance, for an article entitled "How to eat well at work place?", the short title could be "Eat well workplace", "Workplace eating strategies" or "Work Eat".

edit

The title

We call it the "real" title as it actually is the title of your page. Short and real title can divert from each other, but should contains the same keywords. The real title could be a long one.

edit

Body text

It's where you write. Technically, it's as easy as writing a plain text email. To add more colors or styles, bear in mind that all the contents could be formatted. The wiki provides a set of text formats (italics, bold, link?,...) to let you do the most usual things. But if you need more, check the complete markup list that always comes with the edit form.

edit

Description

Consider it as the excerpt or the summary of the page, like if you need to tell someone what it's about in just one phrase. Be precise; a description such as "Cool toys to become green" doesn't appeal to anybody.

edit

Keywords

If you started a page from scratch, you've already though about relevant keywords to your page. Well, it's nothing more than that, except the fact that here, you can add all the keywords you want. No restrictions. The more there are, the easier it would get to categorize your page and link it to others' pages.

edit

Author

It's you. Add your name.
